We really like the following article that's been brought to our attention, written very well by Anupama Shukla.  It describes:

  • Must-know: Why cloud storage is the key to rapid data growth
  • Why cloud computing is changing the IT industry and key players
  • Why cloud business models differ from on-premise software
  • Why cloud apps are taking market share from on-premise products
  • and asks.... Is cloud computing changing the face of the IT industry?
  • and gives a really great overview into the Cloud computing industry, in comparison to in-house/on-premise software installations.

All in all an excellent read!  Thank you Anupama!

One thing that I found really interesting is the main statistic that shows that the total cost of ownership for a traditional in-house ERP installation works out cheaper on average than the cloud license model - due to a number of factors including:

  • having to pay extra for integration to other systems
  • having to pay extra for any add-ons
  • having to pay for rapidly increasing amounts of data etc.
